Yay… here’s my December 2017 Blogging Income Report and goodness… it was a great month! Overall, 2017 was a GREAT year (more on that in another post).
The goal I set for 2017 was to increase my gross income every month. As I’ve mentioned a few times, I didn’t hit that goal. July was a horrible month for me and it took awhile to recover. But thanks to November and December, I finished 2017 with a BIG BANG!
I don’t have any great analysis for my big finish in December. The last quarter of the year is generally a great period for food bloggers (thanks to the holidays) and this year that proved true for me.
Several of my old posts performed well and I even had a huge spike in the days after Christmas because of this Instant Pot Black Eyed Peas post. In fact, January 1, 2018 was bigger than any day in 2017 thanks to that post. No one is more surprised than me by this information. A black-eyed peas post blew everything else out of the water for the whole year.
All of that to say, growing a successful blog takes time. Posts don’t always have to immediately go viral to be successful.
If properly promoted and well-written, old posts (aka evergreen posts) can pay you for years to come. Just for kicks I pulled my income reports for the entire life of Rose Bakes… that’s 6 years. This is what it looks like:
Slow and steady growth because I’ve kept at it – kept chugging away month after month without giving up. Putting out good content consistently – even in the down months – even before I was really making any money. I mean look at that first year… I barely made $1000 in 2012. In 2017 I made more than $93,000.
What other job could you possibly increase your income almost 10X in 6 years? Not many, that’s for sure!
One more thing I want to mention. The majority of this income comes from Rose Bakes, but I do earn small amounts from this blog (CakeBlogging.com) and my personal blog, RoseAtwater.com. So far, the income from the other two is tiny compared to Rose Bakes but I do lump it altogether for these reports.
Hopefully one day Cake Blogging & RoseAtwater will warrent their own reports, but as of now, it’s not worth separating out. Also, these reports do not include the income from my real-life cake business.
Anywho… let’s get to the numbers!
